Two major transport infrastructure projects are well underway in Brisbane!

Brisbane's two hottest major transport infrastructure projects over the past couple of years: Cross River Rail and Brisbane Metro. To ease traffic pressure from the outer suburbs to the CBD and to give residents more transport options, the government has invested A$5.4 billion and A$1.54 billion respectively to build Cross River Rail and the city's light rail.

The Cross River Rail project spans 10.2 km, running from Dutton Park to Bowen Hills, and will include five stations: Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street, Roma Street and the Brisbane Convention Centre, with 5.9 km of underground rail crossing the Brisbane River and the CBD. According to official figures, the construction of this rail line will bring close to 8,000 jobs to the local area, attracting large numbers of workers to move to areas around Brisbane.

Brisbane Metro is expected to begin operating in 2023. Once completed, it will significantly reduce travel times during the morning and evening peaks and ease traffic congestion. The Metro has two lines, namely

Line 1 (Metro 1): Eight Mile Plains to Roma Street, passing through Griffith University, the Mater Hill health service centre and South Bank Parklands.

Line 2 (Metro 2): Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital to the University of Queensland, passing through the PA Hospital, South Bank Parklands, the Queensland University of Technology and the University of Queensland Medical School.

From the two maps above, we can see that Woolloongabba has stations on both major infrastructure projects, so the Gabba will become a large transport hub in the future. With comprehensive facilities outside the station, it will emerge as a new commercial precinct, attracting more businesses.

In addition, the Brisbane government will build a light rail terminus covering 100,000 m², located at School Road, Rochedale. It will become one of Australia's largest and most technologically advanced terminuses, which will no doubt bring enormous job opportunities and property value growth to the local area.
