Queensland's Final Reopening Stage! From 3 July the 20-person cap on restaurants and bars is scrapped, with domestic flights resuming on the 10th

On 30 June, the Queensland Government finally made the announcement: from 3 July, the state will officially move into Stage Three of easing restrictions!

Entertainment venues such as pubs and casinos will reopen, and the 20-patron limit for restaurants will be lifted. The cap on numbers for weddings, parties and gyms will be raised to 100 people!

At the same time, Queensland also announced: from 10 July, its borders will open to visitors from across Australia (except Victoria). Before entering, however, visitors will still need to submit a border application and sign a "Border Declaration". In response to Victoria's recent resurgence of cases, Queensland will tighten control measures from 3 July. Faced with the escalating outbreak, Australian Prime Minister Morrison urged authorities to move quickly to "lock down" virus hotspots.

Although the border is reopening, this does not mean people can "enter Queensland freely". According to the Queensland Premier,

travellers from other states (except Victoria) will still need to apply in advance on the government website before entering Queensland,

and complete a "Border Declaration" — that is, confirm they have not travelled to Victoria in the past 14 days. Providing a false declaration will result in a fine of up to A$4,000.

Queensland Health spokesperson Dr Young announced: from 3 July, Queensland will
officially move into "Stage Three of easing restrictions".

The following are Queensland's Stage Three eased restrictions:

  • Up to 100 guests will be allowed at indoor gatherings such as weddings, funerals, family get-togethers and fitness classes;

  • Gaming lounges will reopen;

  • Community sport will be allowed to resume, with no limit on spectator numbers off the field, though social distancing rules must be observed;

  • In pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafés, the 20-person cap will be removed;

  • Larger venues must comply with the one-person-per-4-square-metre rule, small venues may follow the one-person-per-2-square-metre rule, and venues between 100 and 200 square metres may host up to 50 people.

  • Sports stadiums can operate at 50% capacity, holding up to 25,000 spectators

After three months, Queensland has finally entered the "final stage of easing restrictions". With restaurants and entertainment venues reopening and caps raised to 100 people, Queensland's economy — hit by the pandemic for nearly half a year — is beginning to slowly return towards pre-pandemic conditions. Throughout this process, however, we must remain vigilant and guard against a resurgence of the virus!
