Final Stage of Queensland's Reopening! From 3 July the 20-person cap on restaurants and bars will be lifted, and domestic flights will resume on the 10th

On 30 June, the Queensland Government finally announced: from 3 July, Stage 3 of the reopening officially begins!

Pubs, casinos and other entertainment venues are permitted to reopen, and the 20-person dining limit at restaurants has been lifted. The cap on numbers for weddings, parties and fitness clubs has been raised to 100!

At the same time, Queensland also announced: from 10 July, the border will reopen to visitors from across Australia (except Victoria). Before entering, however, travellers must still submit an entry application and sign a "Border Declaration". In response to Victoria's recent surge in cases, Queensland will tighten control measures from 3 July. Amid the escalating outbreak, Australian Prime Minister Morrison has urged that COVID-19 hotspots be locked down quickly.

Although the border is reopening, this does not mean people can "enter Queensland freely". According to the Queensland Premier,

travellers from other states (except Victoria) must still apply in advance on the government website before entering Queensland,

and complete a Border Declaration. That is, they must confirm they have not travelled to Victoria in the past 14 days. Providing a false declaration will result in a fine of up to A$4,000.

Below are the eased restrictions under Queensland's Stage 3:

  • Up to 100 guests are allowed at indoor gatherings such as weddings, funerals, family gatherings and fitness classes;

  • Gaming lounges will reopen;

  • Community sport will be allowed to resume, with no limit on spectators, subject to social distancing rules;

  • At pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafés, the 20-person cap will be lifted;

  • Larger venues must follow the one-person-per-4-square-metre rule, small venues may follow the one-person-per-2-square-metre rule, and venues between 100 and 200 square metres may host up to 50 people.

  • Stadiums may operate at 50% capacity, accommodating up to 25,000 spectators

After three months, Queensland has finally reached the "final stage of reopening", with restaurants and entertainment venues reopening and the cap on numbers raised to 100. Queensland's economy, hit hard by the pandemic for nearly half a year, is beginning its slow return towards pre-pandemic conditions. Throughout this process, however, we must remain vigilant and guard against a resurgence of the outbreak!
