Brisbane wins hosting rights for the 2032 Summer Olympic Games

At its 138th session in Tokyo, Japan, the International Olympic Committee voted on 21 July to select the host city for the 2032 Summer Olympics. Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, Australia, won the hosting rights without suspense.

The 2032 Brisbane Olympics will be held across three main cities — Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast — with a total of 32 venues hosting 28 sports. Brisbane will have 21 venues, most of them clustered around the Brisbane River. The Gabba cricket ground in Brisbane will serve as the main Olympic stadium, hosting the athletics events as well as the opening and closing ceremonies.

The sunny Gold Coast will have 7 venues and host more than 10 Olympic events, including beach volleyball, golf, triathlon and various water sports. The Gold Coast Olympic Village will be located within the newly planned Robina residential development.

The Sunshine Coast, to the north of Brisbane, will have 4 venues, with the Sunshine Coast Indoor Sports Centre hosting the basketball events, where basketball stars from around the world will gather to compete for gold. Cities such as Cairns, Townsville, Toowoomba, Sydney and Melbourne will host the football preliminary rounds.

With its sound overall planning, favourable and pleasant climate, and extensive experience in organising major events, Brisbane won the hosting rights for the 2032 Summer Olympics without suspense.
