Brisbane Awarded Hosting Rights for the 2032 Summer Olympics

The 138th Session of the International Olympic Committee voted in Tokyo, Japan on the 21st to select the host city for the 2032 Summer Olympics. Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, Australia, won the hosting rights without any suspense.

The 2032 Brisbane Olympics will be held across three major cities — Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast — with a total of 32 venues hosting 28 sporting events. Of these, Brisbane will have 21 venues, most of them located around the Brisbane River. The Brisbane Cricket Ground at the Gabba in Brisbane will serve as the main Olympic stadium, hosting the athletics events as well as the opening and closing ceremonies.

The sunny Gold Coast will have 7 venues, hosting more than 10 Olympic events, including beach volleyball, golf, triathlon and various water sports. The Gold Coast Olympic Village will be located within the newly planned Robina residential development and will accommodate 2,600 athletes and team officials in the future.

The Sunshine Coast, to the north of Brisbane, will have 4 venues, with the Sunshine Coast Indoor Sports Centre hosting the basketball competition, where top players from around the world will gather to compete for gold. Cairns, Townsville, Toowoomba, Sydney and Melbourne will be the venues for the football preliminary rounds.

With its excellent master planning, superb and pleasant climate, and extensive experience in organising major events, Brisbane won the hosting rights to the 2032 Summer Olympics without any suspense. The 2032 Olympics will also propel Brisbane onto the world stage, making it a new "world-class" metropolis!
